Fresh Forward Breeding | strawberry breeding company

In mid-2020 we started converting a 4ha cucumber nursery with 4 departments into a strawberry breeding company with 14 departments.

In collaboration with consultancy firm DLVge, Teunis Sikma and Kees van Miltenburg of Fresh Forward Breeding, water-technical, electrical and heating technical adjustments have been made.

Conversion of cucumber nursery to strawberry breeding company

A fabric filter, several water treatment units, a drip system and a irrigation water system have been installed for adjusting the water-technical installation. They also made the necessary electrical adjustments. Department panels have been installed with various lighting systems, including assimilation lighting in the cutting department and various LED lighting systems in the test setups.

To adjust the heating, two transport groups with various heating groups are mounted in the sections. In addition, floor heating, pipe rail heating, growth pipe heating and table heating have been installed. A new CO2 installation has also been installed.

These activities are carried out in constant consultation with the clients, since regular changes are desirable for practical or technical reasons.

Royal Berry | strawberries from Bemmel

Trintech and Royal Berry have been linked since 2010. At the time, Jan van Genderen bought a tomato nursery that was conversed by Trintech to the cultivation of strawberries. Ranny van Raaij, commercial technical advisor Trintech: With this conversion, the foundation has been laid for many years of cooperation. I got to know Jan van Genderen as a driven entrepreneur who always goes for the highest attainable, something that fits the philosophy of Trintech.

Continue to grow | 7ha outdoor cultivation

In 2014 Royal Berry expanded with 7 ha of outdoor cultivation of strawberries on racks. By giving several storage silos a new function, we were able to connect this outdoor field largely to the existing installations. For this purpose, directional drilling has been carried out under the public road for the water technical and electrical installations.

In the meantime, the second greenhouse horticulture company, a stone’s throw from the first, had also been purchased. This company has also been conversed by Trintech and made suitable for the cultivation of strawberries.

Expansion 15ha foil greenhouses

In 2018 we expanded this location with 11 ha of foil greenhouses. This was again quite a challenge, given that this plot was located 1 kilometer away. Nevertheless, we have found a solution in consultation with the customer, which makes it possible to provide this cultivation with good irrigation water from the existing water technical space.

All necessary technical installations are housed in one central room, which makes monitoring easy. During that period, we also made preparations for the expansion of the greenhouse complex in 2019. In 2019 we took care of the expansion of 6ha of greenhouses for both water and electrical installations. In 2020 we are working on expanding the outdoor field from 11 foil greenhouses to 15 ha. This expansion will be ready for the new growing season at the beginning of 2021.

Fresh irrigation water in 2021

The first project is also known for 2021. In addition to the completion of the outdoor field, we will also install a new PE pipe for the supply of fresh irrigation water from the central irrigation water pond. This guarantees continuity and reliability for the future, after all, good water is of vital importance.

Collaboration Lukassen Engineering

Lukassen Engineering, internationally known for spraying, irrigation booms and transport systems for the horticultural sector, has been working with Trintech since 1990.

Director Twan Lukassen: “Together we have good interaction. Machine building is our specialty. Trintech takes care of the automation and electrical control of our systems. By working together, we bring together multiple disciplines and expertise from construction, mechanical engineering and control technology. Efficiency not only ensures the best results, but also a higher quality of our customers’ products. At the start of a project, we brainstorm and come up with the best design together. We first present this design to our customers. After approval of the sketch design, we further develop the installation in 3D. This allows us to assess in the initial phase whether the solution fits and functions.”

Modular building

“We mainly deliver custom work based on the modular building principle. Which means that we use standard parts and proven techniques for every machine. We never shy away from a challenge. We don’t actually sell ‘no’, as long as we can solve it mechanically, we come up with a suitable system,” says Twan.

Within the standards

“Because our customers cannot live for hours without a working installation, quality, continuity of the installation and service orientation are of paramount importance to us. To give an example: When we are asked to assemble a spray, watering boom on a poor-quality pipe system, we do not accept the order. In our view, this results in an unstable system, which does not fit our standards.”

Albert van Dam, managing director of Trintech: “Why should customers choose Lukassen engineering? They have more than 50 years of knowledge and experience of cultivation. In this knowledge we find and strengthen each other. In addition, it is very pleasant for us, but certainly also for the customer, that we are an innovative and creative machine builder.”

Project GoniCress bvba Belgium

GoniCress is a joint customer and a good example of our collaboration and out-of-the-box solutions.

Twan: “In connection with the expansion of the new building, the customer asked for two extra spray booms.” Once at the customer, they asked us if we also knew a solution for a lift for plates with cutting material. If it fits mechanically, we can, we gave the customer back. We made a beautiful and easy-to-use solution. Trintech takes care of the automation and electrical control.

Together we get into the customer’s skin

Albert: “In short, our collaboration is important. We always know where to find each other and can complement each other with unexpected customer questions. We also introduce each other to our own customers if there is reason to do so.”

Twan: “We never wear a three-piece suit; the growers don’t like that. Rolling up your sleeves and getting into the customer’s shoes, that’s important!”
